CSOR and JTF2 Physical Fitness tests - what they are, minimum standard, etc

The minimum standard for JTF2 is just that....the minimum.  Although achieving the minimum allows you to potentially make it onto selection.....the odds of making it through said selection if you can only do the minimum....are VERY low.

Are you sure a Anonymous Navy SEAL actually said that?  Or perhaps it's just a generic saying that people will say "xxxx said it"... I also beleive it is a line in Platoon(movie) or atleast close to a line in that movie.

Can't speak for the jtf2 pre selection book. But this is why the CSOR program is the way it is.

And I thought it was just designed to prevent any lawsuits. But apparently there is some science behind it. Maybe for the coopers test they should get rid of bench press and switch to squats.

Also the jtf2 pre-selection physical fitness training program (complete the army fitness manual by adding level 5, 6 and 7). Good for medium/long term objectives.  ;D

I am far from having done any special forces test, but here is how I see it.

1. The more you are in shape the more you increase your chance of success.
2. If you are like me and you are not quite impressed by those 13k rucksac walk, then do more. Both american special forces and SAS are doing much longer walk...
2a. As you can see from yourself, while the performance required is quite impressive, it's high but not olympic; and so is the training program.
2b. Don't be shy to as your PSP for customized program after a point, or reinforcing key weak muscles (i.e. forearm)
2c. At some point you will need a training program that is more intense, and there is a LOT of training techniques that have not been touched.
3. Avoid at all cost injuries. Make the difference between a lactic burn from a real injury
3a. While it's true that most of our limits are mental, you need to have your muscles well developed before going to far (My personal experience)
3b. Go progressively; look for fitness not for lesion.

Ummm?  There is no super secret reason to hide it.  It is only a Fitness Program.  You can Google any Physical Fitness Program you want on the internet and find it.  Do you want the SAS Fitness Program......Use your Google Fu and you will find it.

I scratch my head every time I look at the pre-selection fitness test for JTF2 for why they gauge your 1 RM Bench....
I'm assuming they're looking to judge your brute strength. If so then why not test your 1 RM deadlift. It's a MUCH clearer indication of ones strength not to mention the motion itself and functionality involved would be a lot more applicable to combat situations.
Even the squat would be better than testing your bench press...
Just seems weird to me.

They have their reasons, and those reasons have been working for them for almost 20 years now.  If it's not broke, then don't fix it.  The test is merely a gauge to see if you have a base level of fitness for selection week.  Selection week is were the real testing begins.  And that applies for all the high speed stuff (CP, CSOR, etc.).

For some reason that fitness program appear on the intranet page of the jtf whereas it does not on the public one. That's why I have been surprised to find it on the psp website.

IMO this should be part of the standard AFM and not as a seperate fitness manual.

Thanks for your opinion. However, we have specialists and administrators that spend lots of time designing and figuring out exactly what fits everyone in comparison to the total needs of the CF.

Oh my bad! I should have said that I don't understand why they are not unified. I am clearly not qualified enough to make such conclusion.
