Today, 26 May, is the 286th anniversary of the entry of the Royal Regiment of Artillery onto the Order of Battle as a permanent member in 1716. Prior to that it was raised for each campaign and then disbanded. It was likely George I with his knowledge of the armies on the Continent who brought this about. |
