Yes, some trades can be (and will be) compartmentalized into specialties. I think the key
point about crewed equipment (guns, tanks) is that all members must be capable of adequately
performing each job because the replacement back in the pool may not be able to come forward
as soon as needed.
Regardless of the expertise of each gunner, gun crews will probably always be larger than
technically required for the simple reason that ammo is heavy.
