RE: Opening/Recruiting

Dear Board of Directors:

I am a Russian historian who is currently completing his MA, having already earned BAs in Russian and in Russian Area Studies, I could provide some unique insights to NADI. Moreover, my experiences as a soldier, an Intelligence Analyst and a combat veteran would allow me to make an excellent contribution to your staff.
During my tenure in the military I witnessed firsthand the necessity of a consistent foreign policy that pursues legitimate national interests while respecting the lives of individual soldiers. Bismarck once quipped that the Balkans were "not worth the bones of a single Pomeranian grenadier." Nevertheless, many of today's foreign policy experts assume a very cavalier attitude towards the lives of soldiers, advocating a military devoted even more to peacekeeping and humanitarian missions. Some defense analysts and politicians favor misusing the military in drug interdiction operations on an even greater scale than today and more ominously--as an internal police force. Such operations, which have assumed a central role in the contingency planning of today's peacetime military, needlessly jeopardize lives, degrade readiness and drain morale in the name of nebulous, quixotic objectives that are tainted by political opportunism.
I have authored numerous articles and studies on Soviet and post-Soviet military capabilities, ground order of battle and doctrine. Furthermore, I edited my division's Black Book and directed teams dedicated to specializing in Soviet artillery systems and politico-military developments in the Middle East. Finally, I instituted weekly training programs for eleven intelligence professionals in my section. Our cross-training integrated the various professional specialties and encouraged the analysts to adopt a more multi-disciplinary approach to their duties.
I am very enthusiastic about working once again in the area of foreign policy analysis and I am confident that my insights will mutually benefit both myself and the NADI.
I will make myself available for an interview at your convenience.

Sincerely,

Michael F. Anglemyer
