It is always sad when one logs on and sees blatant lies and half truths. Jim Cox is my friend and I would have to rate him as one of the top three supporters of the Army Reserve with whom it was my pleasure to serve with in Canada. He went to bat for reservists when others felt that many of them were a waste of rations. He cheerfully put his brigade at the disposal of the Commander of LFWA to assist in the training of reservists whenever he could. What he did hate was "phonys". People who would play at soldiering and who wouldn't put in the time and effort to understand the profession to their greatest ability. This he couldn't stand. He drove himself hard and his brigade was a tired one when he relinquished command ... but it was as ready as he could make it for any possibility. He called a spade a spade and this offended many people. You would not have heard him utter the nonsense that came out of Ottawa this week that our dropping bombs on Yugoslavia was a "humanitarian gesture". That little spin was an insult to the pilots and ground crews who are carrying out their missions. They are engaging in acts of war against the Yugoslavs who will retaliate to the best of their ability. To call our bombing "humanitarian gestures" and their triple "A" "acts of war" is ludicrous. Jim Cox trained warriors ... he is one himself ... and the unwillingness of any of his fellow generals to defend him 'lest' they themselves become targets of somebody's attacks speaks volumes for their own moral courage.
