Yesterday, when my wife reported to the "Unemployment Office" to inform them that she is now on maternity leave, the clerk behind the counter asked why the military does not give the same maternity benefits as the civil service.
Apparently, in a contract ratified recently, federal civil servants receive "top up" payments to bring them up to 93% of their pay FOR 27 WEEKS (military members do not - during the last weeks, they have to survive on Unemployment Benefits alone).
I hope somebody at NDHQ reads this, and can do something about it.
