Actually there was fighting in the Aleutians. The
First Special Service Force (Canadian/American)
had their first action of the war there. The 13th
Canadian infantry Bde also fought in the Aleutains.
Although in one case the Japanese evacuated before the
Invasion, in others they fought back in their typical
fanatical manner.
