Today in the paper I read more about how Canadas army can`t cut it. I want to have a career as a professional soldier, but an reluctant to persue it with the Canadian Armed Forces. Instead I am looking more towards the French Foreign Legion. No disrespect to those in or those that want to join the forces, but just for a second suppose all the armies in the developed world were runners in a race. All are very capable and have trained hard to get where they are. Everyone is pretty evenly matched, but on race day everyone else shows up in Nike running shoes and Canada is wearing sandals.
I think it`s great that we can do with less and still acclompish a lot. It shows dedication and determination which is something not everyone has.
My friends and family think I should go Canadian instead of joining the Foreign Legion. They belive that Canadian Peacekeepers are #1 the world over, but other countries contribute to UN peacekeeping. Do not they get shot at and suffer the same as Canadians or anyone would in those areas. So how does this make us better peacekeepers. I think this is a large misconception in the Canadian population and is used to give some meaning and positive press to our countries small army (which is good). Take that away and what do we have?
Finally I`m not dumping on our forces or wanting to go where the grass may be greener. I just want to be the best with the best. Canada or not. Any thoughts?
