When I joined the Cdn Army (Regular), regimental numbers were assigned per the manning depot where you enlisted. As indicated, C was Ottawa, B was Toronto etc. The regimental number compised a combination of two letters officer/man and manning depot plus a sequential number. This was a subject of some discussion about a year or so ago but I never archived the listed of which numbers were attributted to which manning depots. When I was a member of the militia, my regimental number consisted of a single letter followed by a series of numbers.
The use of Social Insurance Numbers as the regimental number started in 1967/68 along with unification.
