In talking with a few Reservists and one fellow in particular (ex Lincoln and Welland now 1 RCR) it would appear that there is a big problem trying to get pers out on ex/trg nights. "I ain't going on that Ex, the Platoon Comd's a dink" type attitude.
Now I can also respect the fact that people are trying to jugle several differant lifestyles such as school, jobs, etc, but is'nt there a mandatory attendance clause somewhere?
Also haveing been on tour with several augmentees there is also the problem with getting quality troops that are able to dedicate the large amount of time required for a deployment. One Reservist explained it like this...The troops that are checked out in the Reserves are usually checked out in thier civi jobs or schooling as well and can not afford to take time away to attend these long term commitments. Therefore the units are forced to send the left overs. (His words so dont go ape on me)
To get to the point I guess what I am saying is that Reserves must be able to keep thier jobs secure while taking extended leaves for training /operations etc. In my oppinion this is the only way to afford Reserves a solid chance to train and operate.
It must be a real pain to have to use holidays to attend courses etc like on guy did on a 6A I was instructing. (He failed by the way, shitty way to spend the holiday)
Any word on this mandatory time off issue.......
