The CVSM was nicknamed the EBGO (Every Bastard's Got One) and also the SPAM medal (and inquiring minds were told that it was given for eating large quantities of tinned meat).

The Americans have been wearing their "I made my bed" medals with pride for years, but you do make a good point.

I'd like to see Good Conduct Chevrons come back in use for those ranked private or corporal. It would be a nice way to recognize two years of service, and not devalue the awards system by creating another "gimme" medal that comes up with the rations.
