Why bother with only two or three squadrons of aging tanks at all? Spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on new turrets just to save 30,000 dollars a year on the "cost" of paying a private to load the gun doesn't seem to make much sense. What good are tanks to our peacekeeping forces? And if we have another war such as is fought in the Gulf, with a huge coalition of Allied troops, what good would a single understrength regiment of tanks be? Better to spend the money on raising another battalion or two of infantry so our existing soldiers don't have to rotate to Yugo every second year.
