Canada's highly prized Coyote recon vehicle is really a poorly maintained rust bucket, says Canadian commander in Bosnia-Herzgovina. In a letter released to the Reform party under the access to information act, Col Michel Jones painted the Coyotes sent to Bosnia as riddled with rust and plagued by faulty maintenance and missing parts. Thats the same GM manufactured recon vehicle Defence Minister Art Eggleton has touted as the envy of armies in the world. Jones wrote last fall that the 25mm guns and the vehicles other weapons were never tested or inspected before deployment, and "it is believed that the Coyote were not fully inspected, repaired and tested for their readiness certification in Canada". Reform MP Art Hangar said the complaints prove the Coyote is fine for recon missions but can't handle a war zone.
I would be interested in hearing anyone else's opinion on this subject. Anyone out there with any "Practical" experience with this or any of the new generation LAV's. Whos was at fault? GM or DND? Comments anyone? Considering the age of the vehicles I find the Col's comments to be somewhat suspect personally.
