Gen Macdonald, says without Canadian support, the U.S.
might run NORAD on its own. The Americans are going to
test another missile this spring to see if a $13 billion
program should go ahead.
If nations such as North Korea, Iran, or Iraq try to
launch a nuclear missile, Macdonald says the Americans
have assumed Canada would support a system that could
deal with that threat.
I personally can't really foresee this as being a threat.
There exists, of course, a possibility of such an occurrence,
but I think that the overwhelming retaliation for launching
a missile against North America would be enough to keep it
from happening. This seems like a lot of money to blow on
something that in all eventuality will only benefit the
military-industrial complex that will design and build it.
Thoughts?
