Air Defence eqpt isn't necessarily a white elephant. It's only a white elephant if the government
chooses not to support it. AD is an important combat function, and is growing increasingly more so
with the advent of good, cheap Unmanned Aerial Vehicles for recce, and other more directly threatening
missions, such as releasing bio or chem agents.

We've lost so many functions now: Aircraft Carriers, Strategic Bombers, we almost lost our
submarines, we've lost a lot of tac air lift capacity, a dedicated AB unit, surely we don't want
to lose AD as well? It is unfortunate that some eqpt has been moth-balled.

What we really need in this country is a strategic vision, and a cycle of dedicated funding for our
Total Force that is longer than 12 months duration. Either we're for defending our national interests,
or we're not.
