I don't need to suck back and reload. All I was trying to do is point out that the use of NCM's as a recruitment base for the officer corps can be counterproductive. If you need proof of that just look at the militia. Many of the Cpl's who would make effective leaders are often taken out of the ranks (where they would most likely do the most good) and offered RESO. This, strangely usually occurs after the NCM has entered post secondary education. One of the problems with an over abundance of officers in the Militia is the lack of a career development scheme for NCM's

The fact that we now have commisioned officers in leadership roles who cannot or are poor leaders is probably more due to a selection process for RMC which emphasizes on academic excellence (which is an individual accomplishment and thus has very little to do with leadership) over (and I don't like this term) "the whole individual". The problem with using the troops to develop your officers is that troops who would demonstrate the potential to be good junior leaders, at the same time demonstrate the potential to be a good officer. For example do we offer 000 Bloggins a commision or do we offer him the JNCO course. Furthermore there is now the decree from NDHQ that all officers will have a university degree. Thus for those who do not have a univestiy degree we will go from having a process which takes 4 years to produce a subaltren to one which may take 7 or 8
