I recall listening to a BBC interview after the Falklands War, where the Editor of the Times was asked about the British media's approach to reporting the daily details of the war, and how their methods were so much different from that of the US media, especially in the latter days of Vietnam.

His response was "The public's right to know should never jeapordize the soldier's right to live."
