Re: mail list: Thanx Woody!

>Reserve Regiments whom are usually only Bn on paper (Coy+ or Sqn+ in reality),
don't really require a LCOL to command them.
If we cap the CO at Maj and RSM at MWO, then either a number of other positions
will require rank reduction or we need to properly adopt the Russian approach,
in which appointment is always measured before rank. I've seen lip service paid
to the latter, but at the end of the day nearly every person I've seen filling
an appointment above their rank is less respected than if they had the full
rank. This is a cultural thing we would need to work through.
>Does a Colonel really have to lead a brigade that can field at most a reduced
battle group.
Here it becomes politically interesting. A reserve brigade has a regular LCol
chief of staff (COS). Reducing the reserve commander's rank would presumably
reduce 10 LCol positions to Maj for the Regular Force, and would probably affect
a few Maj (down to Capt) as well. Of course, maybe we could have a proper
brigade HQ in which the G3 (Maj) is the COS and the G4 (Maj) the Assistant COS
(ACOS).
>When I mentioned the Airborne brigade, I intended on making it a given that the
C&S and CSS where included.
Absolutely. Don't forget about higher echelons of support, in which we lack
(well, are in the process of developing if my interpretation is correct)
capability.
>However my emhasise was on the return to full strength of the nine infantry
battalions, three armoured regiments etc...
Are these valuable without full-strength brigade CSS and medical units, not to
mention the aforementioned higher echelon units?
Is there anyone on the list who can elaborate on the number, role, and basic
organization of the GS svc bns which were stood up recently, and where they fit
in garrison-wise and operationally?
