Initiation, was Re: o shit.
Actually Adam, I shouldn't say that there is no initiation, for in reality
there is one. It is called the Basic Infantry Course. It lasts sixteen
weeks and, beyond teaching you the basic skills and drills required by an
infantry soldier, it will make you learn things about yourself you didn't
know. Like how hard you can work, physically and mentally; the importance
of teamwork and how strong a friendship you can form as you help your
buddies; and the feeling of pride on succcessful completion that will mean
more to you than anything you have done in your life so far. Few moments
will register in your mind more than that moment when you are handed your
Regimental cap badge on graduation. Many try - not all succeed - all learn.

Change is not to be feared. Simultaneously, change is not necessarily
improvement. An effective leader improves through change. An ineffective
leader seeks improvement through change. The first is sure of his
end-state, the latter never is. - MMO
